The Clock is Ticking on Flood Insurance Program

Local

Time is quickly running out on the re-authorization of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). Congress has only 30 working days left to take action or the NFIP will expire on September 30th.

Since REALTORS® expressed their concerns about NFIP to members of Congress at the Mid-year legislative meeting, there has been movement on this issue, but a resolution has not been reached.

In the House, the Financial Services Committee has passed multiple pieces of legislation to address this issue. NAR is in support of all but one of those measures. At least three different bipartisan efforts are being pushed in the Senate. While aspects of these bills are a step in the right direction, NAR has not taken an official stance on either bill. To learn more about these bills, visit NAR’s analysis page.

A “call to action” has not been warranted just yet, however, REALTORS® are still encouraged to discuss this issue with their members of Congress are back in their districts. To see updated talking points, click here.
