Brookhaven Issues 35 Day Zoning Moratorium

Local

The City of Brookhaven issued a 35 Day moratorium on all zoning applications that will last until February 28. According to Councilman Bates Mattison, "Brookhaven recently became of aware of a gap in our zoning code that occurred at the time of incorporation which could adversely affect current Brookhaven property owners. We have to have a temporary moratorium to make a technical fix to protect existing residents and businesses."

  • During this time, all applications that were received prior to January 24 will be processed normally.
  • Between January 24 and February 27, applications will continue to be accepted for Tree Permits, Trade Permits and Interior Renovation Permits. Also, the Fire Marshal's office will continue safety and occupancy inspections during this time.
  • Until February 28, a moratorium remains in effect on all zoning cases, land disturbance permits and building permits. The moratorium is necessary to correct a gap in the zoning code that occurred at the time of incorporation which could adversely affect current Brookhaven property owners.
