The 2019 Calendar year started with a terrific panel discussion on Wednesday,
January 16, focused on the development process and the key details involved in site
selection. Moderated by John Speros, Senior Vice President of Ackerman & Co., this
program featured three highly prominent developers talking about individual
projects that have defined our city in the past and summarized some very exciting
developments currently underway.
Jeff Fuqua, Founder & Principal of Fuqua Development, LP, talked about his experience in mixed use projects and how the evolution of food and entertainment programming have truly revolutionized the core of live/work/walk communities. Bennett Sands, the Managing Director of Wood Partners, outlined the development perspective in Atlanta’s burgeoning multi-family market, adding that Midtown alone is projected to create 25,000 new jobs, with 12,000 of those jobs already delivered. He discussed the different segments of the rental markets, including the more affluent “renters by choice” who are looking for more square footage, and millennials who want easy commutes and high walkability factors.
Our final speaker for the program was Barry Branch, Managing Partner of SSG Strategic Land Partners. He toured the audience through his newest project, Vineyard Park, a joint venture with Pope & Land. This 155-acre, $300 million mixed-use project in Bartow County will embrace an outdoor lifestyle concept as it is close to the LakePoint Sporting Community and will feature single family, multi-family, hotel and office development.
