ACBR Data Center Task Force Update

The ACBR Data Center Task Force is actively examining the opportunities and challenges presented by the rapid growth of data center development across Georgia and the Atlanta region.

The Task Force is currently evaluating several key areas, including land use and zoning, infrastructure requirements, power and water capacity, community engagement and public perception, and state and local regulatory considerations.

Members have had the opportunity to hear from issue experts from the Georgia Municipal Association, local utility companies, data center developers, and economic development executives.

The Task Force is also closely monitoring the evolving policy conversation in the City of Atlanta and across the region. Atlanta officials are currently considering their own data center task force focused on issues including electric grid capacity, water supply, noise, tax impacts and ratepayer costs, underscoring the importance of ACBR’s effort to provide the commercial real estate industry’s perspective in these discussions.

What’s Next

The Task Force’s work will culminate in a white paper containing balanced, market-informed recommendations that can serve as a resource for local governments, policymakers, and other stakeholders as they evaluate future data center development. The goal is to help ensure that decisions are informed by sound real estate principles, reliable information, and a clear understanding of the economic and infrastructure considerations involved.
